-How can I get a Guest ID? (Needed to register for internet and wireless access)

Usually the Coordinator will take care of sending you your GuestID if you are part of a conference. (This information will be given as part of the registration process). If for some reason you were not assigned a GuestID or you are a walk-in guest you can go to guestreg.uconn.edu to set up this access.

-Where are the Kiosk stations, if I am not pre-registered by a conference group?

If you are not pre-registered by a conference group or you are a walk-in guest you must register at guestreg.uconn.edu. On that main page at the bottom there is a list of locations, one of which you must visit in order to complete your registration. (These places are called Kiosk stations) From there you will get your GuestID and can then register for the network (Both wired and wireless)

Computer

-What can I do if I get a virus on the UConn network?

It is your responsibility to protect your computer while on the UConn network; however HuskyTech will help out if you get a virus during your stay. Depending on the severity of the issue and the length of your stay our techs can evaluate whether or not to have you drop it off in our shop for a cleaning.

Internet

-Where can I get wireless access?

The campus is not fully wireless, however In addition to wired network access, the University has now provided wireless internet in the study lounges of all Residential Halls. Shippee and Buckley are the only residential halls, where wireless internet is available throughout the entire building.

Wireless is also available in various academic and multi-purpose areas around campus. These locations include the Student Union, MSB, Gampel Pavilion, and the UConn Co-op. (For a full list, please refer to this website)

-How do I connect to the UConn network?

All residence hall rooms have Ethernet connections. This information is also pertinent for trying to connect with a cable in computer labs and the library. As long as all settings and security issues are taken care of when you arrive all you will need to do is plug your Ethernet cable into the wall jack and you will be directed to the registration page when you go to your web browser. You will have to agree to all the university network policies. After registering with your GuestID you should be all set.

-How do I connect to UConn-Public wireless?

Depending on your type of computer, there are different ways to find a wireless signal, however always make sure your wireless is enabled first before trying to connect. When you pull up the list of wireless signals, you should see “UCONN-PUBLIC”; this is the one you want to connect to. When you open up your browser (Internet Explorer, Mozilla, etc) you will see the UConn wireless page.  Input your GuestID and password you set up, and you should be all set.

-Why can't I register (NetReg) my computer on the network?

The NetReg process is required for using the UConn network. It requires the use of your GuestID to register your computer for use. Before completing NetReg your computer should have a log on password, anti-virus (Windows only) and operating system updates completed. If any of this is missing, the system might give you an error that relates to one of those issues. If you cannot properly NetReg please call HuskyTech for assistance.

-Why can't I get online?

There are a multitude of reasons why you could be not getting on the UConn network. The easiest way to diagnose this is to find your IP address (link) and see what that refers to. From there it could be a network setting on your computer and the best route would be to contact the HuskyTech call center.
