Blue Screen
A blue screen indicates that the operating system itself has crashed. This can sometimes be a one-time fluke (e.g. the hard drive “hiccupped” and couldn’t find a file it was looking for, so the computer panicked), but usually indicates a more serious problem with the machine.
Windows
A blue screen which reads DRIVER_IRQ_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL means one of two things: either the computer is overheating, or there is something wrong with a particular part of the machine. If the machine boots up normally, but regularly blue-screens after a few minutes of operation, it is probably overheating, and the manufacturer should be contacted for repairs.
If the blue screen instead reads STOP: 0x000000XX, and/or it blue-screens while booting, the machine should be brought to our shop in McMahon for troubleshooting. It’d be helpful for us if you could write down the exact STOP error before coming in!
Mac OS
Although Mac operating systems are much less prone to crashing than Windows, they, too, will crash periodically. In this case, it is almost always a sign of imminent hard drive failure; you should back up your data and contact AppleCare as soon as possible. |
