NetReg

NetReg is the process by which students register their computers on the UConn network at the start of every academic year. It is mandatory for all students, and is done so that the university can maintain a database of which computers belong to which students, for purposes of monitoring bandwidth, etc.

When initially connecting and registering, connect directly to the wall; do not use a router.

Usually, the NetReg page will be displayed automatically the first time you open a browser. If it is not, simply go to http://netreg.uconn.edu. Click the “register” link on the main page. On the next page, input your NetID and password, agree to abide by the laws and university policies, and click the “Register Me” button. Restart your computer, and you should be all set!

If you receive an error message when trying to NetReg, make sure of a few things:

• You have looked over our Before Connecting section which goes over everything you need to get on the network. The errors could be referring to a few things you need to complete:

• You have an antivirus program installed. UConn provides Symantec AntiVirus for free download at http://antivirus.uconn.edu.
• You have all necessary Windows Updates. Refer to our OS Updating page for help.
• You have a strong user password.

If you are still not able to access the internet after restarting your computer, you will need to clear your browser’s temporary files. Directions are listed below:

Internet Explorer

Open the “Tools” menu and select “Internet Options.” Select the “delete temporary files” option from the new window. – See an example

Open the “Tools” menu and select “Clear Private Data.” – See an example

Open the “Safari” menu and select “Empty Cache.” – See an example
