Slow Computer

Computers can run slowly for many reasons: a virus infection, a conflict between software installed on the machine or a lack of available system resources.

  • Make sure you don’t have more than one antivirus program installed, as they will almost always “fight” against one another, and create more problems than they fix.
  • If you have any symptoms of a virus infection (i.e. popups or virus warnings), refer to our Viruses & Spyware page for help cleaning your computer.
  • Otherwise, consider purchasing more memory for your computer. Working memory, usually called RAM, is the cheapest and easiest to install component of any laptop or desktop computer. More memory will allow you to run more programs simultaneously.
