Switches & Hubs
Networking switches are similar to routers: they split one connection into several. ResLife has installed switches in triples, quads, and suites across campus in order to provide enough network connections to residents. They should all have an accompanying power supply, and must be plugged in to function; if either the power supply or the switch are not present in the room, a replacement can be obtained by contacting North Complex Office at (860)486-3412.
- When connecting through a switch in one of these rooms, do not use port number 5. Switches do not need to be registered by students – See an example

- If your switch does not appear to be functioning properly, try unplugging the power for a few moments. This allows it to re-synch on the network.
