The UConn Network

There are many vulnerable computers already on the UConn network that are infected with viruses and worms. The university constantly monitors network traffic to eliminate these threats, but cannot always resolve these issues immediately.

How does this affect you?

If you bring an unsecured computer onto this network your computer may be susceptible to attacks from viruses and worms. This is why some precautionary steps must be taken BEFORE connecting to the UConn network to protect your computer!

What if you choose to wait to protect your computer?

The UConn network is regularly monitored for computers which pose a security risk. These computers will be blocked from accessing the Internet as a result of becoming infected with a worm or virus and attacking neighboring computers on the network. When this occurs ONLY ResNet will be able to verify a computer as being safe after it has been cleaned and secured, even if done so by another vendor.

How to protect your computer in 3 steps

  1. Maintain up-to-date anti-virus program such as Symantec/Norton or McAfee
  2. Keep up with Critical Updates and Service Packs through Windows Update
  3. Set passwords on ALL user accounts for the computer
