Connecting to Wired Connection

By following these steps you are properly configuring your computer for use on the UConn network.

  1. Right-click on the Network Neighborhood icon (if using Win 95/98/ME) or My Network Places if you're using Windows 2000 or XP. Click Properties from the drop-down menu that appears. You should see a screen similar to figure 1, shown below, although it may vary slightly depending on the OS you're using and the hardware installed on your computer). Right-click on Local Area Connection and select properties from the list.

  2. The next screen you see should look like figure 2. You may see more things listed in the middle list than are shown here, but what you are looking for is one that says Internet Protocol (TCP/IP). Once you have highlighted this option, click Properties.

  3. Make sure that both options under the General tab are set to automatic (see figure 3).

If your connection still isn’t working, check to make sure you have the correct cable (not a phone cord) and are plugging into the correct jack (not the phone jack). Also make sure that "Bridged" and wireless connections are disabled.

After connecting, open Internet Explorer and you will see the NetReg page.
